The clients purchased a house in Boulder, CO and came to me for architectural interior design guidance to transform the property into a more functional, open and contemporary residence tailored to the way they live today.

Originally built in a traditional style with smaller windows and compartmentalized spaces, the home felt visually closed off and lacked connection between rooms. The goal was to create a warmer modern atmosphere with stronger natural light, improved flow and thoughtfully reimagined living spaces.

Key transformations included the addition of a dedicated home office for a client who works remotely, widening the hallway to create a more generous sense of arrival, and redesigning the staircase with an open architectural divider between the kitchen and living area. This allowed the kitchen to remain visually connected to the main living space while adding structure and definition.

The kitchen itself was expanded and integrated with the dining area and a small bar, creating a more social and functional heart of the home.

To modernize the architecture, larger windows and panoramic sliding glass doors were introduced, opening the interior to the patio and bringing in significantly more light.

The primary bedroom was enlarged, including a vaulted (angled) ceiling to create greater volume and presence. Bathroom layouts were reconfigured and the basement was transformed to include media room, a sauna and spa retreat.

An additional request was to create a separate library and reading space – offering a quieter, more intimate area within the home.

The result is a fully reimagined residence that balances modern openness with warmth, comfort and everyday livability.
